Bronagh Slevin was raised on books, music and ancient oaks and copper beeches sloping to a river, an implicit education to never let anyone take away your certainty about yourself. She grew up in the northwest of Ireland, and summers on the wild west coast in the shadow of Benbulben allowed her to counter the grim barbed-wire unloveliness of the “Troubles” with Yeats.
Music, empathy and faith in the great mystery that is life have been a passport to friendship everywhere, from Andalusia to Africa to South America. Water is the one constant in life that she seeks. Sicily, her home of 15 years, and Ireland are two islands steeped in storytelling and myth. This inevitably filters into her work. Writing is as necessary to her as singing, as being in nature and near water.
In Sicily, Bronagh has found a way to bring together her passion for music and words. Raising two children abroad and following her creative path inevitably has its ups and downs. Nowhere she has lived has been as challenging and full of unexpected reward as Sicily, with all its buried frustrations and startling beauty.
There are many similarities between Ireland and Sicily, not least how the past affects the present in a myriad of ways. For Bronagh, island life has come to mean always being close to water, the source of everything.

Lei è di Capo d’Orlando e quando ritorniamo in Sicilia veniamo a trovarti sicuramente. L’inglese è sempre più tecnico, ovvero quello che mi serve per il lavoro, la comprensione è buona ma sono carente sul dialogo perché purtroppo non lo pratico molto. Ci vediamo presto, baci dalla Toscana.
Ma guarda un po’, siamo vicini vicini! A presto allora 🙂
